How to disable most visited sites in Chrome new tab

Google has updated chrome with a new "new tab" page that shows all your most visited pages every time you open a new tab, and needless to say not everyone's excited to see their most viewed sites every time they open a tab. Here is how to disable it.

It's not just the obnoxious most visited pages tab that's annoying in the new "new tab" page. It's also a redundant search bar and the fact "recent tabs" are hidden away. You can switch back to the old view easily though:

  • Type chrome://flags into the address bar.
  • Search for the option labeled "Enable Instant Extended API."
  • Change it from "Default" to "Disabled."
  • Restart Chrome.

That should fix the problem and get you back to the old Chrome "new tab" page.
